Museums and science centres
We have provided millions of pounds of support for a number of museums and science centres around the UK. Museums and science centres provide the opportunity for informal learning, which complements visits from both families and schools. This creates a base in which to encourage dialogue between researchers and the visitors, supporting our aims of public engagement with science.
Museums and science centres that the Trust has supported in recent years include:
- At-Bristol
- Glasgow Science Centre
- The Centre for Life, Newcastle upon Tyne
- The Manchester Museum
- Sensation, the Dundee Science Centre
- Thinktank in Birmingham
- The Wellcome Wing at the Science Museum in London
- Darwin Centre Phase 2 at the Natural History Museum in London
- The Centre of the Cell at Queen Mary University of London
- The Science Gallery, Dublin.
The Trust has recently contributed to a number of specific initiatives:
- Inside DNA, a travelling exhibition on genomics
- All About Us, the redevelopment of the first floor of Explore (currently Your Amazing Brain) at At-Bristol
- Brought to Life - digitising the Wellcome collection at the Science Museum in London
- the redevelopment of the Who Am I? gallery in the Wellcome Wing at the Science Museum in London.
