International Collaborative Research Initiative Grants - DISCONTINUED
Purpose
Following the 2008 History of Medicine review, International Collaborative Research Initiative Grants will no longer be available. This content is provided for information only.
This scheme enables established historians of medicine based in developing countries, restructuring countries of central and eastern Europe, and the independent states of the former Soviet Union to undertake a research programme to be carried out in their home institution, in conjunction with a collaborating department in the UK or Republic of Ireland.
These awards are intended to develop new collaborations and further pre-existing links.
Research proposals will address historical aspects of health issues relevant to the region of origin of the overseas applicant.
What's included
Support is provided for up to three years.
Awards provide research expenses, which include support for local research assistance.
Support is also provided to cover the costs of travel and subsistence for short annual visits between the overseas and UK/ Irish groups. A travel allowance is supplied for grantholder to attend history of medicine symposia.
Awards are held jointly by the collaborating partners, but all funds will be administered through the institution in the UK or Republic of Ireland.
Eligibility
You should be an established historian of medicine based in a developing country (South-east Asia, China, Africa, Latin America), a restructuring country of central and eastern Europe, or an independent state of the former Soviet Union, wishing to undertake a research programme to be carried out in your home institution, in conjunction with a collaborating department in the UK or Republic of Ireland.
Your research proposal must address historical aspects of health issues relevant to your region of origin. Access to local primary sources must be demonstrated.
Application process
A preliminary application should be made in writing, including:
- a brief CV and record of the most recent/relevant publications for each applicant
- details of research proposed (maximum one page)
- details of the work plan, including description of the rationale of the collaborative links
- letters of support from the heads of the institutions involved
- the approximate cost of the proposal, broken down into staff salaries (overseas salaries only), project running costs and travel cost.
If your preliminary application in successful, you will be invited to submit a full application.
Deadlines
Applications are considered three times a year.
Preliminary applications may be submitted at any time, but must be received at least six weeks before the full application deadline, as described below.
Full application deadline: 1 March, 1 August and 1 December
Late applications will not be accepted under any circumstances.
