Biomedical Ethics in Developing Countries Project-Scoping Travel Grants
Purpose
We will not accept applications from individuals seeking support for travel to attend conferences or meetings.
The purpose of this scheme is to enable biomedical ethics researchers based in developing or restructuring countries to meet with prospective collaborators within their own country or another country to discuss ideas for biomedical ethics research collaborations.

What's included
The maximum award under this scheme is £1000.
The grant provides a contribution towards travelling expenses and, in some cases, subsistence expenses at approved rates.
Individual researchers are limited to no more than two awards with a minimum of 12 months between the first visit and the second.
Successful applicants must make their own travel and visa arrangements.
Eligibility
Only those based in a developing or restructuring country are eligible for these awards.
You need not be in academic life but will normally be expected to hold a doctorate or clinical qualification.
You are expected to have an established research interest in biomedical ethics (i.e. publication record in biomedical ethics), or to be actively pursuing a research career in the ethics of biomedical science or healthcare in developing or restructuring countries.
Wellcome Trust grantholders whose grants contain a travel allowance are not eligible to apply for project-scoping travel grants.
Please note.This scheme is not for applicants seeking funding to attend meetings of a professional or vocational nature, workshops, symposia or international conferences or congresses.
Application process
You must submit a preliminary application, in writing, that includes:
- your name and contact details
- your CV
- the title and a brief outline (one page maximum) of the project
- approximate costs.
Your preliminary application will be reviewed for eligibility. A full application form will be sent if our eligibility criteria are met.
Deadlines
Applications may be submitted at any time and should be sent to the Trust at least two months before your proposed research is due to commence.
You will usually be notified of our decision within a few weeks.
