We fund research in public health (including communicable and chronic diseases) and tropical medicine (including clinical and biomedical) as set out in our International Strategy. Examples of research we have funded can be found on our past funding pages.
We fund a range of collaborative projects, including major international partnerships between higher-income countries, such as the International HapMap Project and the Structural Genomics Consortium.

Providing personal support specifically for researchers in low- and middle-income countries.

For outstanding researchers who wish to establish a career in Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakian Republic and Slovenia.
Wellcome Trust BDT India Alliance (external link)
For outstanding medically qualified or science graduates across the full spectrum of biomedical research, from fundamental molecular and cellular studies through to clinical and public health research.
Global health trials scheme
A joint scheme from the Wellcome Trust, UK Medical Research Council (MRC) and Department for International Development to fund late-stage trials of interventions that will help improve health in low- and middle- income countries, by addressing the major causes of mortality and morbidity.
Human Heredity and Health in Africa
Provide support for the creation and development of the necessary expertise and infrastructure in Africa and establish pan-African research networks.
