Support for symposia, seminars, conferences and workshops
The Trust does not normally provide support for symposia, conferences, workshops or seminars organised by external bodies - other than for Small Grants (Medical Humanities) or Small Grants (Society and Ethics).
In exceptional cases, and in areas of strategic interest, the Trust will consider making small contributions in the region of £1000 to £10 000 (inclusive of any taxes incurred) to such activities. Requests for funding of this nature should be emailed to the Trust and address the following issues:
- the need for such a meeting and link to the Trust’s mission
- an indication of the specific items for which funding is being sought (for example, travel for low-income country scientists or young investigators)
- recent meetings in the field
- previous conferences, etc. supported by the Trust on this topic
- details of the meeting, including Chairman, organising committee, proposed speakers, expected number of participants, method of announcement/invitation, information to be provided in advance of meeting and anticipated outputs from the meeting
- details of the budget for the event and whether funds are being requested from other parties. Where support has already been secured from other funders, please provide details of the funders and the level of contribution being provided.
The Wellcome Trust takes diversity and equality seriously, and believes success in science demands diversity of people, ideas and approaches. We would expect the organisers to ensure that the proposed speakers, panellists and participants are representative of their scientific community.
From time to time the Trust works with professional societies to co-develop specific meetings. Therefore, support will not normally be provided for routine meetings, workshops and conferences organised by professional societies.
