Biomedical science grants
Biomedical science grants offer a range of support. We fund at all career stages - from vacation scholarships for undergraduates to fellowships for established scientists and clinicians. We also provide a range of grants to support research projects.
Funding to cover the common costs of research, including staff salaries, equipment, materials and travel.
Programme grants
Provide funding for high-quality projects, in the basic and clinical sciences, which are relevant to human and animal health.
Project grants
Provide funding for high-quality projects, in the basic and clinical sciences, which are relevant to human and animal health.
Support for researchers to develop technologies, to establish or maintain biomedical resources, or to purchase equipment for multiple users.
Biomedical resources
Provide support for researchers wishing to establish or maintain biomedical resources (including databases and collections) for the benefit of the wider scientific community.
Equipment grants
For multi-user items of equipment, including equipment required to create a central resource for a number of disparate scientific programmes.
Technology development
Provides support for researchers wishing to develop technologies or to refine existing techniques.
Opportunities for support are available for scientists at all levels who are working on research projects relevant to the biomedical sciences. We also support developing country scientists working in public health or tropical medicine. Research projects can be based in the laboratory, the clinic or the field and may involve experimental or theoretical approaches. Where appropriate, applications are encouraged from candidates trained in disciplines outside the biomedical sciences who are applying their expertise to biomedical problems.
Basic biomedical fellowships
Support for postdoctoral researchers in basic biomedical science at each stage of their career.
Clinical fellowships
Support for clinicians at each stage of their careers. These schemes are open to individuals qualified in medicine, dentistry, veterinary science or clinical psychology wishing to conduct research in their field.
Flexible travel awards
Support researchers who want to learn new research skills, or take a sabbatical.
Principal research fellowships
Provide long-term support for researchers of international standing. The most prestigious of the Trust's personal awards.
Public health and tropical medicine
Support for researchers in developing countries in public heath and tropical medicine at each stage of their career.
University awards
Support to enable universities to attract or retain strategically important researchers, research analysts and technologists.
Veterinary research
Support for veterinary researchers at a range of career levels, including fellowships for PhD and postdoctoral research. While veterinary scientists can apply to either basic or clinical fellowship schemes depending on the nature of the clinical commitment, in addition, there is a suite of specific schemes available for their support.
