Purpose

These awards help universities with the recruitment, career progression and retention of key academic and research staff.

Value in People Awards were part of a raft of initiatives launched by the Trust in conjunction with the Government's Spending Review in July 2002.

What's included

Awards are provided to the top 30 Trust-funded universities.

We do not wish to be prescriptive about how funds are used, but as an example they could provide:

  • salary funds for new recruits until a university post or fellowship becomes available
  • bridging funding for researchers on fixed-term contracts
  • short-term funding for non-biologists to work in biomedicine
  • funds for staff to attend short training or updating courses.

Eligibility

See a list of universities currently in receipt of funding.

Application process

Awards are administered by the recipient universities.

Grant End Date
Universities wishing to postpone a grant end date, because funds remain unspent, should contact the Trust, in writing. This request should be received before the current official end date. The end date may be postponed for a period of up to one year at no extra cost.
