Purpose

This scheme provides opportunities for biomedical researchers to travel between the UK and the Middle East. It offers applicants the chance to undertake short-term visits of up to four weeks to further their research and learn new techniques, with the aim of establishing academic links and developing ongoing collaborations.

Applications are sought from medical or non-medical graduates whose research falls within the broad scope of medical or bioscience research. Two additional awards are available through this year’s round of funding to applicants working within the field of surgical research, and one of these is available specifically to applicants whose research falls within the fields of surgical technology or surgical quality and safety.

The scheme is administered by the Academy of Medical Sciences on behalf of the Daniel Turnberg Memorial Fund. The Wellcome Trust, together with several other funders, provides funding to support the fellowships.
