Southampton Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility

The Southampton CRF opened in November 2001 as a purpose-built facility situated at the heart of the University of Southampton NHS Hospitals Trust. Since then, over 16 000 volunteers have participated in a wide range of clinical research studies, led by both academic and NHS investigators.
What kind of work is conducted there?
The work ranges from early experimental medicine studies correlating physiology and genotype with patient phenotype in health and disease, through to late-stage studies investigating the effectiveness of treatments and diagnostic tests, the natural history and prognosis of diseases and more qualitative aspects of medicine.
