Death: A self-portrait

7 January 2013

Wellcome Collection's latest exhibition, ‘Death: A self-portrait’, takes an intriguing look at the iconography of death and our complex relationship with it.

From rare prints by Rembrandt, Dürer and Goya to ancient Incan skulls and a chandelier made of 3000 plaster-cast bones, Wellcome Collection's major winter exhibition looks at our enduring desire to make peace with death. Featuring objects taken from the private collection of Richard Harris, a former antique print dealer based in Chicago, 'Death: A self-portrait' embraces both the macabre and the moving.

It runs at Wellcome Collection until 24 February and is accompanied by a programme of live events. A downloadable teachers’ pack and Ethics Study Day complementing this exhibition are also available.
