Uluzuzulalia performance workshops

5 January 2013

Artist Yvon Bonenfant and his creative team are developing Uluzuzulalia, a new programme of performance workshops for children aged six to ten. Using magic spells, fantastic sounds and responsive video images, children and their carers will be invited to explore vocal sound and speech and their links with science.

This project - which is supported by the Wellcome Trust, Arts Council of England, the University of Winchester and The Point in Eastleigh - has drawn on expertise from a range of fields. The artists have worked with specialists in voice medicine and linguistics, young people, teachers and carers to test and refine the workshops. Watch a two minute trailer of the results so far.

Commenting on Uluzuzulalia, Yvon said, "Parent, teacher and arts-professional feedback has been very strong. The piece brings together voice, movement and science and allows children to explore their own vocal worlds from inside their own bodies. There are links to music, science and even language learning and reading curricula. The children's glowing eyes are so gratifying to see after their participation."

Uluzuzulalia will be available to book for school visits as part of a national touring programme from spring 2014. Please email Yvon - yvon.bonenfant@winchester.ac.uk -for more information.
