Representative groups

In response to the growing incidence of obesity, a number of bodies have been established to raise awareness of particular issues or to act as a voice for those affected.

The International Obesity Task Force" target="_blank">International Obesity Task Force (IOTF) and the International Association for the Study of Obesity" target="_blank">International Association for the Study of Obesity (IASO) aim to:

  • alert the world of the growing health crisis associated with obesity
  • improve health by promoting the understanding of obesity
  • encourage the development of policies for the management and prevention of obesity.

The Obesity Awareness and Solutions Trust (TOAST) is a UK-based charity aiming to promote a better understanding of obesity and its prevention. The charity Weight Concern aims to provide support for overweight and obese people.

Improving the quality of life of people with obesity is the mission of the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance, a US advocacy organisation.
