How small is small?

Nanoscience deals with the extremely tiny: distances less than 100 nanometres (nm). But just how small is that? To help you get a handle on the very small scale of nanotechnology, we have put together this simple interactive demonstration.

  • What does a nanoparticle look like?
  • If a nanoparticle was scaled up to the size of a football, how big would you be if you were blown up by the same size?
  • How big would other things be if they were enlarged by the same amount?
Find out by viewing how small is small.
