News and Media

Communicating your research via the News and media
Communicating your work via the media can be highly effective and rewarding. It is an easily accessible way of improving public awareness and understanding of science.

Getting involved with the news and media

The Media Office can help you publicise your latest research paper, in liaison with your institution's press office and other funding bodies, to ensure maximum publicity for your work. We can help in all aspects of media work, ranging from identifying 'the story', drafting press releases and setting up interviews to devising a coherent media strategy.

The media work to specific, immediate deadlines. We can help prioritise and adapt your media responses to the differing deadlines and agendas of print, broadcast and online journalists at a local, national or international level.

We work closely with our publishing team, and can help you achieve coverage in Wellcome News and on our website, through news and features and even video.

Database of experts

We can also help you to become a spokesperson for your field. This will put you in touch with journalists seeking expert opinion and knowledge and enable you to comment on breaking science stories.

Training and support

If you are interested in getting your work into the public domain then contact our Media Office who will be happy to offer support or advice.

You can also download our Guide to Working with the Media (PDF).
