The Science Learning Centres initiative aims to reinvigorate science teaching.

Science Learning Centres offer teachers and technicians opportunities to discover new approaches to science teaching, find out about the latest scientific developments and share experiences with their colleagues.

Nine regional centres have been funded by the Department for Education and Skills. The National Science Learning Centre in York has been funded by the Wellcome Trust.

All the Centres will offer teachers access to newly furbished labs, advanced computer equipment, and innovative courses in cutting-edge research and the wider issues of science in society.

The initiative is part of a broader education programme at the Wellcome Trust. Its key aim is to promote a schools science education that both equips people for life in the 21st century and continues to provide a stream of students with the skills, knowledge and motivation to seek a career in science.
