Who Applies for Research Funding?
In the UK, research has found no evidence for direct gender discrimination in assessment of grant applications, but has revealed that women tended to apply for fewer grants than men. To shed more light on this discrepancy, the Wellcome Trust and the six UK Research Councils commissioned the National Centre for Social Research to investigate the grant application behaviour of researchers in the UK. A summary of the results has been published in 'Who Applies for Research Funding? Key factors shaping funding application behaviour among women and men in British higher education institutions'.
