Between Macroethics and Microrealities

Three papers presented at the decennial meeting of the Association of Social Anthropologists of the Commonwealth (ASA), July 2003

The Wellcome Trust sponsored a panel at the decennial meeting of the ASA in 2003 entitled 'Between Macroethics and Microrealities: What might an anthropology of biomedical ethics look like?'. The panel was organised by Dr Bob Simpson of the University of Durham and chaired by Professor David Parkin of the University of Oxford.

The three papers explored anthropological perspectives on a range of ethical issues in medicine and medical research, drawing on examples from Africa, Asia and Latin America. The Trust is keen to receive applications from anthropologists for grants through its initiative in Ethics of Biomedical Research in Developing Countries.
