Grants information

3. Grants in foreign currency

Since 1 December 2009, applications can be costed and grants awarded in the currency chosen by the applicant and host institution. For more information on our updated policy please see our website.

4. Grant conditions

The Wellcome Trust's grant conditions have recently been updated, mainly in relation to the Trust's revised foreign currency policy, the payment and repayment of grant funds, the requirement that End of Grant Spend Reports are submitted within three months of the grant end date, and the management of Trust-funded intellectual property in situations where the research involves third parties.

Your attention is drawn, in particular, to sections 4, 6(viii) and 7(i).

5. UKPMC Grant Reporting System

The Grant Reporting System enables all Wellcome Trust researchers to link research outputs to the grants awarded. We will be using this system to help us track and assess the impact of our funding portfolio, therefore please ensure that all your papers are correctly linked.

Guidance on how to do this is available online.

Once papers are linked you will be able to produce reports detailing which papers are associated with specific grants and their citation impact, via the Web of Science and Scopus databases.

6. Health Innovation Challenge Fund update

The inaugural call for this scheme was themed around Advancing Genetic Discoveries into Clinical Practice. We are pleased now to report receipt of more than 50 preliminary applications from which 13 projects have been shortlisted to submit a full application. Announcements about the awards will be made later this year.

7. Identity: Eight rooms, nine lives

Running until 6 April 2010 ‘Identity’ explores the tension between the way we view ourselves and how others see us. Sexuality, self-portraiture, twins, diaries, DNA fingerprinting, acting and improvisation are among the topics tackled in this eclectic exhibition and events series.

8. Counterfeit medicines

On 26 October 2009, the Wellcome Trust and the American Pharmaceutical Group (APG) held an Opinion Formers' conference on counterfeit medicines to help raise awareness and take forward this important issue. A summary report has been produced to encapsulate the main themes and actions of the day. Find out more and download the report online.

9. Explore the history of the Wellcome Trust
