Annual Review 2012: Focus area 3 - Exploring medicine in historical and cultural contexts

We strive to embed biomedical science in the historical and cultural landscape, so that it is valued and there is mutual trust between researchers and the wider public.

In this year's ‘Annual Review’, you can read about our In the Zone project, which inspired people to take an interest in the science behind the record-breaking athletic performances at the London 2012 Games. Also this year, we funded the first cadre of Medical History and Humanities Investigators, announced a project to bring together the archives of the pioneers of modern genetics, made a Society Award to extend a successful approach to getting A-level students involved in biomedical research, and enjoyed a Superhuman exhibition at Wellcome Collection.
