Annual Review 2011: Focus area 1 - Supporting outstanding researchers

In this year's ‘Annual Review’, you can read about our new funding scheme, Wellcome Trust Investigator Awards, which aims to give world-class scientists more freedom to drive advances in their field. Other activities this year included the opening of new research facilities in Hanoi, Vietnam, the first ever Engagement Fellowships to promote and develop public engagement with science, significant progress in the development of the Francis Crick Institute and plans for a new open-access research journal in partnership with the Max Planck Society and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
