Headline figures for 2011

The net investment base (after Bond liabilities) of the Wellcome Trust Group was £13.6 billion at 30 September 2011, compared with £13.9 billion at 30 September 2010.

The overall investment return was a positive return of 2 per cent during the financial year (2010: 11 per cent).

Charitable expenditure of the Group was £642 million, compared with £678 million for the previous year.

This contains details of Wellcome Trust Finance plc's income and expenditure from 1 October 2010 to 30 September 2011. Wellcome Trust Finance plc issued £550 million 4.625 per cent Guaranteed Bonds - due July 2036 - on 25 July 2006, and £275 million 4.750 per cent Guaranteed Bonds - due May 2021 - on 28 May 2009, which are listed on the London Stock Exchange.
