Headline figures for 2012

The net investment base (after Bond liabilities) of the Wellcome Trust Group was £14.5 billion at 30 September 2012, compared with £13.6 billion at 30 September 2011.

The overall investment return was a positive return of 12 per cent during the financial year (2011: 2 per cent).

Charitable expenditure of the Group was £746 million, compared with £642 million for the previous year.

This contains details of Wellcome Trust Finance plc's income and expenditure from 1 October 2011 to 30 September 2012. Wellcome Trust Finance plc issued £550 million 4.625 per cent Guaranteed Bonds - due July 2036 - on 25 July 2006, and £275 million 4.750 per cent Guaranteed Bonds - due May 2021 - on 28 May 2009, which are listed on the London Stock Exchange.
