UK PubMed Central: Manuscript Submission System

Last updated: 5 January 2007

Details of how Trust-funded researchers authors can submit papers for inclusion in UK PubMed Central.

In line with the position statement in support of open and unrestricted access to published research, the Wellcome Trust requires copies of any research papers that have been accepted for publication in a peer reviewed journal, and are supported in whole or in part by Wellcome Trust funding, to be made available via the PubMed Central (PMC) and UK PubMed Central (UKPMC) repositories as soon as possible, and in any event within six months of the journal publisher's official date of final publication.

Although the Trust's preferred option [PDF 26KB] is for the publisher to undertake the deposition on behalf of the author - and provides additional funding to cover the costs associated with this - if the publisher does not offer this service then Trust-funded researchers can still comply with the open access policy by self-archiving the final, peer-reviewed manuscript in UKPMC. To facilitate author self-archiving, a manuscript submission system has been developed - the UK Manuscript Submission System (UKMSS).
