Technology Transfer

Fundamental research is often 'too early' or 'too high risk' to be pursued by the corporate healthcare or investment sectors. New discoveries and technologies arising in academic laboratories or early-stage companies may fail to realise their potential unless they become attractive to industry or downstream investors.

Technology Transfer at the Wellcome Trust provides translation funding and technology transfer support for and on behalf of the Trust. It has helped bring several products to market, and longer-term research and development projects, such as drug discovery and vaccine development, are on course to reach fruition in the coming years.

Our award schemes are open both to companies and not-for-profit institutions.

Staff

Technology Transfer staff at the Wellcome Trust have expertise spanning science and technology, business development, market analysis and legal services, including commercial and intellectual property law. The Wellcome Trust's decision making is backed by expert opinion from external scientists, technical consultants and eminent figures from industry and the investment community.
