Professor Michael A J Ferguson CBE, FRS, FRSE, FMedSci

Mike Ferguson is Dean of Research for The College of Life Sciences, University of Dundee. His research takes a multidisciplinary approach to understanding the biochemistry of protozoan parasites that cause tropical diseases. He believes in the fundamental importance of working across the biology/chemistry interface and in interdisciplinary research in general.
He is particularly interested in translational research and, together with his colleagues, established the new Drug Discovery Unit at the University of Dundee. He is also Director of the Dundee Proteomics Facility and is involved with clinical biomarker discovery projects.
As Dean of Research for The College of Life Sciences, his principal roles are to empower and assist his colleagues to recruit and retain the best scientists, to help secure funding that provides state-of-the-art technological facilities, to provide infrastructure and systems that help colleagues translate their basic research when it is appropriate, to recognise and promote excellence among his colleagues, and to help maintain the collegiate and productive atmosphere of the College.
