Information for overseas applicants

The Wellcome Trust recognises the value of diversity within the workplace and is committed to fostering a culture of inclusion and equality. However applicants for employment who are from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland should be aware that we are bound by certain legal restrictions that affect our ability to employ non-EEA nationals in the UK. This legislation requires us to view evidence of the successful candidate's eligibility to work in the UK before confirming any offer of employment.

Currently the Trust can only apply for work permits if a role is on the shortage occupation list or where there are no suitable settled candidates or candidates of a country in the EEA to fill the role. In some very specific circumstances individuals may find they are able to personally apply for a visa that gives them the right to work here.

If you are a non-EEA national and currently without the right to work in the UK and are considering applying for a role at the Trust, the following sources of information should help you to identify whether you will be able to obtain the necessary rights to work in the UK:
