Yes; however, these services are provided at 'best effort'. The Wellcome Trust reserves the right to terminate any wireless session that is restricting other users' access by consuming most or all of the available bandwidth.
Are any websites blocked?
Yes, some websites that have been deemed inappropriate for general use are not accessible through WellcomeNet.
Is the service monitored?
Yes, all computers using this service have their MAC (media access control) address logged and matched to the token number issued.
Troubleshooting guide
My browser does not connect to the start page
Check your proxy settings (Tools > Internet Options) are turned off as these are not required to use WellcomeNet.
Do I need to use wireless encryption protocol (WEP)?
No, WEP is not used on WellcomeNet and should be set to 'off'. Additionally, your WiFi card should be set to 'Infrastructure mode'.
Is the service free?
Yes, subject to the Trust's usage policy.
How do I get help using this service?
The WellcomeNet service is provided on a self-serve basis, so there is no support provided. If you have trouble connecting, there are public PCs with internet access in the Gibbs Building (ground floor) and in the Library.
